What is Cardiolates

CARDIOLATES® combines the alignment principles of Pilates with the cardiovascular and physiological benefits of rebounding. Because rebounding involves an unstable surface – a buoyant mat –CARDIOLATES® requires dynamic stability. This naturally strengthens the core and trains the nervous system and postural muscles to support the body in upright posture. Other benefits include increased agility, coordination, balance and proprioception.

Origin

CARDIOLATES® originated from a desire to find a cardio regime that upheld (and even reinforced) alignment principles. Pilates exercises are not intended to be conducted at an aerobic pace: Pilates is a thoughtful mind-body system of exercise that requires attention to detail, form and alignment. Even when a seasoned Pilates instructor moves through a reformer workout without pause, the heart rate barely taps into a low-impact range. Pilates tones muscles very effectively, but a cardiovascular regime is necessary to burn unwanted fat.

Because unstable surfaces cause involuntary muscles such as the transversis abdominus and the multifidus to contract, rebounding seemed the perfect aerobic complement to a Pilates program. Since CARDIOLATES® integrates rebounding with alignment principles, one can burn fat while improving alignment and posture. Thus, CARDIOLATES® is an efficient and effective solution.

Founders

Katherine e Kimberly Corp

Katherine and Kimberly Corp started Pilates on Fifth in August of 2000 with the dream of creating an elegant and unpretentious Pilates studio.

The former Radio City Rockettes had used Pilates during their rigorous performing schedules to stay healthy and injury-free and immediately saw the potential to help all population types develop healthy movement habits. Though competition in the fitness industry can be challenging in Manhattan, the twins relied on their passion for movement, their genuine desire to help others and their strong educational background to carry them through.

Today, their studio has grown to be Manhattan’s largest Pilates studio, with over 5,500 square feet, and they employ over 40 full and part-time instructors, most of whom they trained themselves. Additionally, they have trained over 400 fitness professionals worldwide to teach Pilates safely and effectively.

Katherine and Kimberly CorpKatherine and Kimberly first obtained their Pilates certification through STOTT PILATES® and were Instructor Trainers for the company from 2001-2005. In January 2006 they formed the Pilates Academy International, the educational arm of Pilates on Fifth, aimed at producing knowledgeable, inspirational, confident and competent Pilates instructors who can work with populations of all ages and fitness levels.

Katherine and Kimberly developed CARDIOLATES® in 2006, a dynamic new exercise program which integrates the alignment principles of Pilates with the physiological and cardiovascular benefits of rebounding. CARDIOLATES® is a fun way to get fit and detoxify without the stress to the joints of typical cardio activity.

They enhanced their Pilates certifications by becoming Cancer Exercise Specialists and subsequently co-founded Pro-Health Pilates, Inc. a non-profit corporation comprised of “Pink Ribbon Pilates” for breast cancer survivors and “Heart Smart Pilates” for clients at risk for cardiovascular disease. They are both certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® instructors as well as ACE and National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainers.
